My Favorite Site for Critiques

Some websites every writer should know about. One of those websites, without a doubt, is qtCritique. qtCritique is made by the creators of another important website to know about: QueryTracker. (That’s where the QT comes from!) qtCritique is for writers on track to try to be published to receive critiques from other writers on their novel, query letter, synopsis, whatever they need critiqued.

The website is set up with a point system. In order to post your work for critique, you must use points, which can be accrued by critiquing other people’s work. You can also leave reviews on people who critique your work. It’s a wonderful set up. qtCritique can be an incredible way to improve your writing. Every critique has the ability to give both green critiques, pointing out what exactly you are doing right, and red critiques, pointing out what could be improved in future drafts.

Personally, I love qtCritique. It helps me get fresh, helpful perspectives every time I use it.

Of course, there are no perfect websites, and qtCritique is not an exception to that rule. For example, there is not a way to properly check if the people you are following have posted anything new. You must scroll through the list of every posted work and keep an eye out for the symbol next to each post that only pops up if you follow the author. In addition, since each post only remains available for critique for a limited amount of time, chapters after the first one are much less likely to be critiqued due to missing context.

Despite these small flaws, I absolutely recommend giving qtCritique a try. While choosing specific people to read your full manuscript is always the best choice when looking for beta readers, this is a great way to get a lot of honest feedback for smaller projects or specific sections of your manuscript.

You never know what you can learn from other authors until you find them and give them a chance to critique, and qtCritique is perfect for that.
